Lynn Valley Heritage Home Rewiring

As an architect and project designer, Gerry’s dream was to someday have a heritage house and restore it to the glory of its age. He and his physician wife bought an Edwardian home on Vancouver’s North Shore. The house had all the typical features of the era, including a front gable roof with symmetrical side shed dormers. Clad in cedar shingles that came from the Fromme Lumber Mill in Lynn Valley, this gorgeous abode was well preserved over the past century. All the woodwork including fir floors, doors, wainscoting, double-hung sash windows, and picture rails were still in beautiful condition.

After the design for the renovation was complete, the couple discovered that the house had more active knob and tube wiring than they were aware despite the fact that it had been renovated before. They also realized that the electrical panel was not sufficient for the demands of modern life, with new appliances and lighting. Not to mention the entertainment room Gerry wanted to build as a hangout space for the couple’s two teenagers.

WireChief Electric was thrilled to join the project to help Gerry and his family with their goal of ensuring that their dream home had an electrical system that was up to today’s safety standards. Tackling the removal and replacement of the knob and tube wiring, and upgrading the service from 100 A to 200 A, was the first step.

The family also wanted quality lighting to accentuate the gorgeous living spaces. There we worked closely with Gerry, who was very detail-oriented and who selected all the light fixtures, pot lights, light bulbs, etc. Gerry’s aesthetic sensibilities were a match for WireChief’s commitment to do our work with the greatest care. We were able to install pot lights throughout the house with minimal damage to the lath and plaster walls.

When our work was done, Gerry was very happy with our customer service, through which we helped him to attain all his requirements and respect the wonderful architectural features of the house. We were also very proud to complete the work with minimal disruptions to the family, who were living in the house during the renovation.

A spectacular home for a wonderful family made this a project we will always remember.
